The four letter word that puts fear in the hearts of parents everywhere: lice! The very thought of it gets most of us scratching our heads!

If your kids bring home some creepy crawlies on their hair and you’d prefer not to treat them with harsh products containing benzoyl peroxide that can be very harsh on their little scalps, try tea tree oil instead!
Tea tree oil is a natural remedy for head lice, being able to kill the live lice and the nits. But as we all know, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so you will be happy to know that you can possibly prevent having these guys come into your home in the first place, by using tea tree oil shampoo. Tea tree can actually deter lice from biting and attaching nits, so if there’s a lice outbreak at your kids’ school, try switching shampoo for a little while! (We’ve also found mineral oil to be a good natural remedy for removing nits and a mixture of vinegar and water can kill lice.)
That’s enough about lice for now (itch itch, scratch scratch), let’s take a look at how else tea tree oil can help your head.
- Remove build up. If your hair tends to have a lot of buildup from styling products, use shampoo with tea tree oil for a little while. A tea tree oil infused shampoo will give your scalp a good deep cleaning and we could all use one of those every once in awhile.
- Anti-fungal. If you’re prone to dandruff or other scalp issues, try using tea tree oil shampoo. It can help to get those blocked follicles unclogged and rid of that bacteria buildup that tends to turn into fungus. And trust me—despite how it sounds, fungus is no fun.
- Stimulate hair growth. Shampoo that’s been infused with tea tree oil can help to keep pores on the scalp unclogged, preventing sores and helping promote hair growth.
We carry shampoos and conditioners at JC Styling that contain tea tree oil. This is not a bad product to have in your bathroom closet!
